It has been a long while since I last updated Tony Electric, so I decided the thing to do was to overhaul the format of the web site. Maybe I will even get around to doing something of substance. It could happen. Any requests can go in the comments, if you like, along with reports of problems with the site.

The old web site, by the way, had a "feedback" form, but it did not work like the "comments" forms to which we have recently become accustomed. Actually, the feedback was just dispatched to me by email. There was no good way to reply to the feedback. I have seen the light, and realized that I am never going to finish the blogging and content management code, written in perl, which was running the old web site. This new site uses "Joomla!", a very talented, if somewhat complicated, content management system.

Several kind folks have left comments on the previous Q&A web page, and now that I have made it into separate items, it's a little hard to place some of the comments with the right blog entry. Those comments ended-up being placed here.

Thanks to all who have visited this web site.

Do I have to be a qualified electrician to turn off a 600 volt breaker?
Tony   |2008-10-07 19:29:58
You don't have to have a license to turn a breaker on and off, even a big one.
On the other hand, this obviously is not an ordinary household breaker. If you
are doing this at work, you should find out about company rules concerning
high-power breakers. In any case, make sure you understand the connected load,
its importance, its power-down procedure, if any, and whether the breaker is
intended to interrupt whatever current it may be carrying.
